Busbridge Church

Busbridge CofE Junior School is part of the parish of Busbridge and Hambledon CofE Church. The church has always played a key role in the life of the school and the school has always enriched the life and ministry of the church. It has been in the parish since Victorian times and has always been on its current site opposite the church on Brighton Road.

Local residents will be familiar with the sight of the school children in their uniforms crossing at the lights to visit the church for events, Christian festivals or learning activities. It is quite a sight to witness the crocodile of 240 children crossing the road. Former pupils and residents of the area will have fond memories of these services and special events, whether it is reading in church, mass-drumming using hands and feet on the pews, or exploring the Christian message of the church building. Shown below are two images of the children enjoying a drumming Easter service in the church, and two images showing Year 6 leavers attending a special moving-on service at Guildford Cathedral and with our Bishop.
The Rector, another name for a vicar, is the Rev Simon Taylor. Busbridge & Hambledon Church is active in its support of children and families and has a large staff team. Simon and the church staff team play a vital part in bringing the church and school together. Simon is a well-respected figurehead for the children and well-known by the parents through his taking part in many celebrations including regular collective worship and bringing a special message and prayers to school events. He is currently the Vice-Chair of Governors and used to be an infant school teacher and involved in school leadership, so has a heart for schools. Simon has also been invited to address Diocesan Education Advisors on the Christian Distinctiveness of church schools.

The church, which financially supports the school and provides housing for the much loved school caretaker, is responsible for appointing seven Foundation Governors and the Rector is also an ex-officio Foundation Governor. Many of those connected with the church are actively involved in supporting the school, one of whom is currently the Chair of Governors, and parents from the church organise a regular parent-prayer group for the school and teachers. There is a church service in the school every Sunday morning.
