Year 6

Welcome to the year 6 page.

During their final year at the school the children are all certain to have a fantastic year filled with great topics, activities and trips.

Most of the work in the Autumn Term is based around Wonder. In Topic we will discover how rivers and mountains shape their surrounding communities by building on previous knowledge and exploring new ideas.

We also look at stories, such as Wonder by R. J. Palacio, to inspire an appreciation and celebration of individuality. Empathy will be a central theme studied as we encourage the children to put themselves in the shoes of others. This will be discussed in other areas of the curriculum such as PSCHE where we will be looking at relationships.

The children will take part in a residential educational visit to Windmill Hill in September - the kit list is listed below.

During the Spring Term the children will study Ancient Egypt and the wonderous civilization that were years ahead of their time. They will make death masks and also visit the British Museum. Deepening our understanding of relationships from PSCHE, we will analyse what the Bible says about friendship and relationships. In computing we will analyse strategies for using the internet safely and begin to apply these when working independently.

The Summer term topic is Godalming. This is also the time year 6 visit Guildford Cathedral for their leavers' service and spend the day at their new secondary school. In addition, they study the world of PopArt and take part in the summer production before bidding farewell to Busbridge.

All in all it is sure to be a packed, challenging and exciting final year for the children.
